I am not a fan of combat. I pray no one truly is. Yet, I respect and honor the men and women who serve in our armed forces. My dad was a Navy Veteran of 27 years. I know first hand the complications and struggles of deployment, for the servicemember and their family. It's hard, so I'm thankful for Soldiers' Angels,

Get to know this organization and the difference they're making to military personnel, military families and vets. With both In-Person and Virtual Volunteering, the Lord has brought me neighbors from around the world to serve with love.

It's a joy to pour into those who pour so much of themselves out. I've been giddy shopping for gift basket items to bless Women of Valor, "female caregivers of post-9/11 wounded, ill, or injured service members and veterans." You feel connected to these angels by reading about their needs, what books, movies and food they like, or how they relax with their favorite hobbies or self-care products. And then comes the fun part. Searching for special things, themed, color--coordinated, whimsical, and with a lot of prayer the caregiver finds them as thoughtful as you hoped they would be.

I've had the pleasure of finding a couple married on the same day as my middle son and his wife. The husband was also in the Navy, so the Anniversary card I sent was automatically personal for me, It didn't hurt their anniversary fell on Talk Like a Pirate Day, so I had a blast with the graphics and eye-rolling bad pirate puns and lingo! I pray it brought a smile to their face.

My next project will be a virtual baby shower. I'm told my last grandchild is my last grandchild, But God always has the last say, doesn't He?! In the meantime, I miss shopping for the wee ones. There's a certain rightness about babies. Tiny perfect proof of the existence of God. Hope, excitement and expectation always comes with buying for babies, even if you never meet them. It'll be a good day for me, a blessing even. I pray it will be for mom as well!

I have been baking for different ministries lately, and find it to be relaxing. And it certainly feels like good stewardship of resources, time and a dash of culinary talent. I haven't started sending care packages with homemade goodies through Soldiers' Angels yet, but that is worth the research to make sure I'm doing it safely. I love double blessings!

I can pick projects to sign up for based on my schedule, my budget and my current state of mobility. It's fun, with so much variety, as there are many different ways to serve such a broad range of people.

What I like most about engaging virtually is that I can send anonymously. That suits me. I am not looking for any thanks or recognition, and the recipients are focused on more important things than worrying about any response to me. It's not why I do what I do anyway.

I pray this encourages you to check out Soldiers' Angels for yourself. On earth as it is in heaven can be achieved, one brownie, card, letter, or baby blanket at a time!
